Sides 1 and 2 recorded December 28, 1959; Side 3 and 4 February 2, 1961Side 1 and 2 originally issued as [r=3595311]. The two takes of "Autumn Leaves" first appeared on [url=https://www.discogs.com/Bill-Evans-Trio-Portrait-In-Jazz/release/3595311]Riverside 315[/url] and stereophonic [url=https://www.discogs.com/Bill-Evans-Trio-Portrait-In-Jazz/release/5447342]Riv. 1162 [/url] versions of the album - the early stereo equipement having malfunctioned during the recording of the first-preference performance.
Side 3 and 4 originally issued as [r=3416469] (Riv. 351). "The Boy Next Door" was not released at that time because the artist was not fully satisfied with it; the producer has chosen to include it now to demonstrate how well even a self-considered lesser Evans effort stands the test of time.
